ABOUT FORT NELSON FIRST NATION:
Fort Nelson First Nation (FNFN) is a Dené/Cree Nation located within Treaty 8 Territory in the Northern Rockies of northeastern British Columbia, approximately 7 kilometres south of Fort Nelson along the Alaska Highway. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Justice Programs Manager, the Prevention & Outreach Coordinator plans, coordinates, and delivers community-based justice, prevention, healing, and outreach programs for Fort Nelson First Nation. This role supports Indigenous individuals and families by promoting wellness through prevention, education, advocacy, case management, crisis response, and referrals to culturally appropriate services.

The Coordinator leads Community Healing Circle programs, victim services, initiatives supporting Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), and youth, family, and community outreach activities. Working closely with Elders, internal departments, community partners, and service providers, the Coordinator helps improve access to supports and services while fostering meaningful community connections. The role also maintains accurate client and program records, prepares reports, supports funding and reporting requirements, and delivers services using trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strengths-based approaches.

WORK SETTING:
The regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week. Flexible schedules may be required to accommodate evening/weekend programs and events. Requirement to travel to several sites on reserve. May periodically work in outdoor environments.

Starting Rate: $35.33/hr

Qualifications

What You Bring:

Knowledge & Experience:
• College certificate or diploma in Social Work, Human Services, Social Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in case management, justice, social services, human services, or a related field.
• Experience developing and delivering prevention, outreach, healing, or community-based programs and services.
• Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous individuals, families, communities, and partner organizations.
• Knowledge of Indigenous history, cultures, traditions, and the impacts of colonization, including Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and Indian Day Schools.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strengths-based approaches to service delivery.

Skills & Abilities:
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to listen, gather information, and communicate with professionalism, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and other standard office applications.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with community members, Elders, partner organizations, and internal teams.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work both independently and collaboratively.

Other Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to work respectfully with all members of the community.
• Satisfactory completion of a police information check.
• Ability to provide reliable transportation for work.
• Compliance with BC Immunization program and TB Screening.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract.

Optional/Assets:
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Justice, or a related field.
• Training in Indigenous Justice Services, restorative justice, cultural safety, or related areas (e.g., Community Justice Forum Facilitator, Cultural Perspectives).
• Relevant certifications such as Occupational First Aid (OFA1), WHMIS, or (OHS).
• Experience delivering culturally grounded community programs and services.
• Experience using Google Workspace (Drive, Calendar, Forms, and related applications).
• Ability to speak Dene and/or Cree.
